Young Hollywood

There for awhile I began to worry that Hollywood's actors had hit its peak and we were gonna see no new young talent. I mean it hard to live up to Meryl Streep or Tom Hanks. Then you have Kate Winsley and the Leonardo Dicaprio age that is slowly more and more dominating the awards. I am not saying that age should matter because Meryl Streep will always be Meryl Streep and could play just about anything, but she one day will not be around and then when Kate Winslet gets older who was going to be next. I was worried that the talent wasnt coming. I mean there for awhile all we had was Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton. Actresses they are not. Then the clouds opened. This rant leads to the topic of my blog which is my picks of who the best and brightest of young hollywood. None of these are in order.

The first one I will mention will be Carey Mulligan. She is probably the one person in my picks to show the most of her potential. She has already been nominated for her lead role in the movie"An Education" a movie about a young girl seduced and has a relationship with an older man. The subtle nature she took on in the role of this girl coming of age could have been easily played as annoying, but instead she had a naive nature about her that gave an understanding to the audience. My favorite role she has done so far is her role in "Never Let Me Go" a movie I have reviewed earlier in my blog. This movie is so hearbreaking and just with her eyes Carey Mulligan show this poor girl and all of her sadness without saying a word. She even made her mark on Doctor Who in the episode "Blink". this is the one episode where the Doctoe and Campanion was barely in it and she manages to carry it strongly.

Recommend:
"Doctor Who- Blink" first if you can watch really sad movies then totally see "Never Let Me Go"

My next choice is Ellen Page. I feel she brought a freshness to Hollywood that it was sorely lacking. Her dry wit became first widely known in the movie "Juno".  The movie became widely popular and recieved some criticism about the movie making teen pregnancy cool, but I never saw that as realistic. She portrayed the odd girl out perfectly finally giving a voice to a modern teenage girl. Not the girls we have been exposed to in the past. Then Ellen Page showed her range even more by doing one of her latest film "Inception" a suspense thriller. Ellen had been known for her indie roles not large blockbuster movies. Being only one of two girls in the film she holds her own against of very strong male actors.

Recommend: "Juno" It is her most famous role, but there is a reason for that it shows her off beat humor perfectly.

Andrew Garfield. What can I say about him. I am in awe of how much I love watching him act. The emotion he is able to show just through the emotion on his face. Then you add the action and I just see it as poetry.  I will be fair and say that I feel he is not always spot on. When he was Doctor Who I felt his accent could have been a bit better and his character doesnt really stand out. Though his role in "Boy A" was truely captivating and the character was in no way easy to play. He plays a man who committed a unspeakable act as a child and just gets out of prison. You get pretty early on what this man did that was so aweful, but you cant stop watching the journey he takes nor do you completely hate him. I also love the way Andrew shows this character's innocence even though he has committed this aweful act. Then there was his role in "Social Network" the part he plays is so subtle and belieavable that you side with him and see this man's side. "Never Let Me Go" is another good example of how he show innocence, only this time it is more heartbreaking and intricate because the character is in such nonrealistic setting.

Recommend-"Boy A" would be the one I pick to show off his acting the most but "Social Network" because he is fantastic and all the other factors of the film just make it amazing to waych.

I feel Emile Hirsch is often forgotten about when the mention of acting talent gets brought up. After the "Speed Racer" blunder, his career sort of went to the down low, whih is actually quite a shame. He has alot of range since he has played the comedic part of a virgin teenager, to the dramatic role of Chris McCandless. We have seen him play the good guy to the bad guy and never once does he ever skip a beat and seem insincere in his part. In the film "Alpha Dog" he plays the lead in a part about a kidnapper. In no way is this character likeable but you keep watching. The characters he usually plays are often not the people you find easy to love, but in the end still mesmerizes you.

Recommend: "Alpha Dogs" or "Into the Wild"

I know that I will recieve alot of judgment for listing Robert Pattinson amongst the most Talented of my generation. I will not list Twilight in this review, but only to say it was an outlet to become known and to gather an audience. His true talent I feel rests in his movies "Little Ashes" and "Remember Me". In "Little Ashes" he plays Salvador Dali. The artist was known for being odd and for anyone who say that Robert was over the top clearly is not familiar with Dali. Pattinson played the artist's tortured misunderstood nature perfectly. Many did not hear of this movie to go see it because it came out before he peaked with his popularity. Also it has homosexual undertones to it that made some uncomfortable so many did not see it. The there is "Remember Me" which is my favorite movie of Pattinson's. Me similar to the age of the character in the movie I found his portryal of this character highly believable. I felt lost in my life for awhile and still do at times, with film being my only friend to help me through. So I found him gripping in the movie and the end made me cry. I hope more will see this movie and for some help them feel not alone in their feelings.
Recommend: "Remember Me" the ending might be hard for some to watch emotionally, but I feel worth it. "Little Ashes" is fantastic also if you like small art house movies.
Emma Stone might come as a shocker on my list with all the earlier choices above, but I see her as someone who will be more and more hilarious as time goes on. There are very few women in film that can be funny and also a leading lady and feel she can be one. She is both funny and pretty, which I feel lack in film. Her scarcasm and dry sense of humor is very off beat and refreshing for film. I have seen her films since "Superbad" and personally I feel the movie falls flat and really is not funny at all and fails to use the good actors the movie has. This isnt a review for the movie so I will not go into it to much, but Stone play a love interest for one of the main characters, and if it had been done right she would have shined much better that what was done. I feel I should mention "Zombieland"  because it shows what a good story can do to bring a out none main characters making it an ensemble cast instead of not. Her role was smart and well played. You believed this girl was pretty enough to con a man out of whatever she wanted and smart enough to survive a zombie apocalypse, yet you like her and dont feel the need to slap her across the face, which I feel the need to do sometimes. "Easy A" was her first leading part and may I say was well played and I feel has been the best teen movie since "10 Things I Hate About You" and before that movie the 80's reigned as the only decade able to make teen movies. "Easy A" has a humor that is unique and refreshing that I feel has alot to doe with Emma Stone and her skill to make this character likeable and understanding.

Recommend: Easy A

Garret Hedlund is another one I think many people forget about how good he is because his performances I feel are unferstated and poignant. His career has never been small roles really, but still go under the radar. His role in "Four Brothers" as the youngest brother and most damaged was gorgeously played and was the role that made me take notice of him. Especially out of all the performances in the movie. Then there was "Friday Noght Lights" His part was my favorite because it seemed the least forced and the most real. The character wasnt perfect and yet you were still on his side. His roles have slowed since he decided to be in the upcoming blockbuster "Tron" where I suspect it will raise him higher in status, which personally I feel he deserves. I personally look forward to his role in the film "On the Road" where he will play along side Kristen Stewart.

Recommend: Four Brother it has action, story and emotion.

Many people have compared Jesse Eisenberg to Micheal Cera. Since the two often play the nerdy or geeky type of guy so it was only expected that there would be comparison. Here is where I see the difference and draw the line. Though Jesse plays a nerdy or geeky character I always see the difference between each one of his characters. Zombieland was probably his first big role to get him on the map. His humor is dry and subtle. I feel it goes under the radar because of this. When you first watch Zombieland everyone mentions how Woody Harrelson is funny, which he is, but his himor is bigger and broader. So if you go back you you then see his humor. If you knew Jesse before this movie it was probably because of his role in Squid and the Whale. This is a more dramatic role then in Zombieland. Though he is still nerdy he is much more cold and dellusional about life and much more broken then compared to the character in Zombieland where he is a hermit who wants to find love. In Adventureland he is not really a nerd or geek, he plays an average guys who has to get a crappy job for the summer. This role is prbably the most relatable he has done. I leave his final and my most personal  favorite is "The Social Network". In this role he plays the geek of geeks. The man who invents Facebook. In the role he is unemotional  and a genius. Through the movie you go from being ticked off to understanding to ticked off to feeling a sadness for a character who has everything that really has nothing. I enjoy his work and all of his characters have layers.

Recommend:
For Comedy:Zombieland
Best performance and all around good movie: The Social Network

I left my most favorite young actor last and probably the most controversial choice, since many people either love her or hate her.In this review I am going to ignore the big vampire elephant in the room. I will only talk about the roles that shine her acting talents. The first movie I ever saw her in is probably one of my favorite. "Speak" is a movie about a young teenage girl who is sexually assualted and her living in silence about the incident. the role is poignant because though she does not have alot of dialogue you can feel this girl's pain through her eyes and body language. The next movie I will mention is "The Runaways" where she plays the lead role of Joan Jett.  This role is way different then her role in "Speak". She plays a girl who cant be quiet and be the girl society thinks is accpetable and you can completely believe her. Joan Jett herself approved Kristen to play her. Kristen can play a girl that is simple to a girl broken. She has a subtlty to her performances that I really like. She never goes over the top and always gets peoples mannerisms really well bringing to life really interesting women.

I recommend "Speak" if you can watch a sort of sad slow paced movie. "The Runaways" for a great biopic. "Twilight" if you want a simple fun movie and I warn very romanticized and girly.

Film People

Being a film student myself I thought that when I started school for film I would finally find people that got me. Instead I felt even more pushed out. Being a woman and wanting to work in film automatically put in in the minority. I knew though I would be put in this position. Still though it seem that the majority of film students want to be just like some other film director or writer. I wanted to be me. Make film that stated something important, that spoke to people ,or more importantly females. I wanted some little girl to be inspired. Like Joan Jett, Natalie Wood, and Katherine Hepburn inspired me to be the best I can be. I mean I had a mother who let me be me and now I feel that I am missing something because the future creative minds of film are wantint to copy. This is why my generations are becoming known as the generation of remakes. I want to scream. Hopefully this will change, but at this rate I feel on my own.

My Next: Dont worry will be more up beat. I will be discussing The best young actors/Actress so far. These are the people that when I work in film I will want to work with.

"Never Let Me Go"

Just today I went to see the movie "Never Let Me Go". A small independant movie that stars Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, and Keira Knightly. The film is three small children being raised in a boarding school for children. The school only has one purpose to keep these kids healthy and happy so once they come of age they can donate their organs to people who need them. The movie pretty much tells you this from the beginning so you think this may be a secret for the end but no. The main story line is the relationship between three people Kathy, Tommy, and Ruth. Some might even argue it is the love story of two extremely tragic characters Kathy and Tommy.

I drove for an hour to see this movie and may I say it was completely worth the drive. This movie was well made in every aspect. The one thing I think one can argue is that the pacing may be a bit slow for some. What I feel this movie does best is the delivery of emotion between the characters. Carey Mulligan plays Kathy the narrator of the story and probably the one character most aware of their fate and the sweetest. Carey Mulligan pulled you and shows the point of view from this girl and the way she portray this girls kindness makes it even more heart wrenching. Andrew Garfield plays Tommy a boy with the most naive innocence and slight temper issues. I feel this character is the most tragic. He simply wont accept what will happen to all of them till last minute and the realization that he cant stop what is about to happen Andrew without saying a word shows it all in his eyes and sells it hook line and sinker and then the scene with his scream literally brought me to tears.

The romance between Kathy and Tommy is portrayed by Carey and Andrew with the greatest chemistry and yet a tragedy in it that I have never seen. The final role and is very vital is Ruth played by Keira Knightly. I personally feel this is her best performance she has given and I normally find her acting stale and tired , but in this she give a humanity to a character that could be easily hated. Keira shows a sadness in a charater that would rather hurt those who care most about her than be alone.

The writing in the film is simple but elagant and never once do you believe that it is forced or unbelievable. The simplicity is really refreshing when I feel today people want to fill scripts with alot of pompous dialoge to show how smart they are especially in small art house films. The cinamatography is was good as it showed this world as dreary and all in all fit the film like a glove. The make up and costumes gave the characters a look like some sort of surviors of camps and it fits with what these characters go through. Having to survive miltiple tranplants just to do it all over again and clothes that look worn out. the ending of all these characters are heartbreaking and poetic and after watching this movie and having time to fully think it over I feel this movie a piece of poetry  from word to movement. I hope many will take a chance and see this film. The music just added the last final voice to the film and was perfect I just the the song that shares the title to the film and think it just make the love between Tommy and Kathy just more gripping please play the song below to hear.

To What Point!

I know this is a feeling that many have wrestled with in their lives. Does their prescence really make difference. At this point I feel that I have not really made a effect on those around me. Maybe I set my standards to high. I mean I want to be remembered when I die and many people go through life and remain unnoticed. I want people to know that they are not alone. I want to create profound stories about woman and their strengths and tragedies. Females are so underused in hollywood. I hope one day I get show the world what I have to say and they love it.

"The Social Network"

I saw this film this wednesday and now I find it to ve one of my favorite movies ever. I just want to see it again and again.
*This review may contain spoilers*

I find the film oddly hypnotic and though the movies is technically long for typical movie standards you honstly dont feel it until the movie ends and someone tells you or you find out how long you have been in the theater. The movies overall look is so normal and realistic and not glammed up or flasshy the colors are quite drab but only adds to the film not take away from it. David Fincher's directing kicked ass. Some of his decisions I thought were subtle but awesome. How many time have people gone to see a movie and when there is a scen where the characters are in a club it is remarkably silent and everyone is heard perfectly. In the film there is a scen between Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake and though you can hear them perfectly it stills seems like there are in a club. This may seem small to alot of people it is to me a major film geek a big deal. The pacing of the movie is fast though you never think it until you dont know what hit you.
The performances in this movie are remarkable. To start with Jesse Eisenberg though already known for playing a geek like guy in many of his previous film still plays a character unlike any he has played before. This part seemed so complex to me. The part you go into wanting to like. This character is after all the man who helped create facebook. The website that many of us are addicted and may have even changed or help to define a generation slightly. But the arrogance of the character just makes you annoyed and this is fully intentional. At first during the film I was beginning to swear off my facebook and not the support. Then Jesse Eisenberg I feel pulls the boat around and makes you like him again and find him a bit more understanding though it still upsets me what he did to Eduardo.

This leads me to talk about Andrew Garfield's performance in the film. He plays Eduardo Saverin, Mark Zuckerberg's best friend and first investor in facebook. He also became the business half and helped creating. Though Mark was mainly the creative half and creator I firmly believe facebook would not be here without Eduardo help. But back to the actual performane. Andrew makes this character completely likeable and I found myself on his side through out the entire film. He brings a sympathy to the character that just pulls you in.

Then finally there is finally Justin Timberlake who I feel to the general public everyone likes somewhat. In this movie I just wanted to ring his neck and that is fully intentional this not a guy you would want around mostly. He splits the team up for the most part and horns in on the website and then screws himself out of a cozy lifestyle by pulling a idiotic move. In the beginning  he is charismatic but you see the true colors in the end and Justin plays it perfectly showing the what needs to be seen at the time and place slowly showing.
As a future potential screenwriter I love the dialogue and believe it is completely believable and suits all the character like a glove. I know I went all gushy on this movie but I hope more people go to see it.

I would like to note though this is my opinion and may differ so if not constructive and intelligent comments please keep them to yourself.

What Matters......

I dont understand the state of people today. Our society is what I call the throw away society. If people grow tired or dont like anything they throw it away. People as a couple as soon as it doesnt work they end it and people wonder why were at a 50% divorce rate. I mean why do people run when it gets hard? Everything now is made so quick and easy that when anything comes along that doesnt work with the slightest of ease they quit. I mean I know that there are deal breakers to any situations like beaters. Thats when you leave, but not everything is that hard. Like the people who get married for 24 hours and then it clearly wont work out. What made that person horrible a few hours later that wasnt apparent earlier.
Then there is this need of screwing people over. In my life I have had people in a none romantic way break my heart. Decieving me or letting me down when it mattered the most because it wasnt convient for them. I consider my self to be a fiercly loyal person and I neverquite a person until the only option left is them hurting me or make me a lesser person. Then there are the people that make you move far away from people and the desert you and go back leaving you to survive on your own. Yes these moments make you a stronger in the long run, but what none sees is that it leaves scars that wont ever heal. I mean I have issues I wouldnt have if people could just be good to one another and think of others. I know everyone has issues and it is near impossible to go through life without not getting any scars. I fear where people are going sometimes because though there are still people who help but there are to many that dont. Not even help just care. Being a best friend means sticking around when it is hard not just when it is fun or your benefit. What do you think?
I also just found out I am losing a little eight yearold girl that I have consider my light in my life since the day I held in my arms at the hospital. Though she is not my own child nor a niece, I still vowed that I would protect till the day I die. Now I dont know if I shall ever see her again. She is moving away now since her mother feels the need to leave the state. It is not in the best needs of the child to leave but the mothers. What makes this ok? I dont what I will ever do with myself without her in my life, I guess now though I may have to find out, though I wont give up without a fight.

Velvet Goldmine

The first movie I want to talk about is probably my most favorite movie of all time. Velvet Goldmine is a movie about the glam rock era over in the UK. Thought the movie complete fiction I still love this movie to death. Many dont get it and probably never will the movie is a real treat for those that do.

It is about Brian Slade a glam rocker who caused a lot of controvery and even faked his death. Well on the anniverary of the incident a reporter investigates into it and gets pulled deeper and deeper into the truth and this man's life. It Stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ewan McGregor, and Toni Collette. If you ever get the chance to see it I would love to know others opinions.

The music fits the film perfectly with the perfect songs. The songs are up beat and you will have to think about what they mean but still catchy. The whole movie makes you think and I feel you may need a liberal mind to watch it. The ending is slightly odd and will leave you with partly your own interpretation, but totally fitting. The look of the film is fantastic and bright. the acting is really genius because with the contents of the script it could have been really over acted. It leaves a statment for anyone whoever felt different and needed to express themselves despite what people thought.

The Beginning

Hello everybody! This is my first Blog ever and started it to share my beliefs and feelings to the world ot least to anyone willing to read about them. I want to make films one day and right now I am going to school for it. For the first time in my life I am on my own with no one from my support team to back me up. I sometimes feel that the moments when your on your own and by yourself truely test who you are.

I will also talk about movies and television too. Since I am going to go to school for them I assume people will think I will talk about them. I am very opiniated and I feel that turns so many away from talking to me. I want this blog to also let people know they are not alone or at least for me to know I am not alone. I will just have random subjects from day to day that I want to discuss.
